TITLES // EPITHETS

OFFICIAL, ROYAL TITLES: susan the gentle // queen of narnia // duchess of dancing lawn // countess of the southern reaches.

OTHER: the southron queen // lady of the horn // lady of the moon // mother of narnia // queen of spring // queen of beauty // jewel of narnia // the marksman queen // barbarian queen // whore of the high king // heartsbane.

THE SOUTHRON QUEEN: this one is pretty straightforward, i’d think. she’s crowned to the south, and so yadada you know the rest. it also explains her official titles of duchess of dancing lawn and countess. this would also easily get switched out for lady of the south.

LADY OF THE HORN: brought up more in stories long post their reign, susan’s horn was a thing of legend all on it’s own. some tales even went so far as to state that it’s magic only would work if used by her, that the lion’s maw would clamp shut and refuse to sound. of course it is eventually discovered that that particular myth was incorrect.

LADY OF THE MOON: peter in all his bright, golden, magnificence was lord of the sun, so she in her pale, soft, gentleness was lady of the moon. this was also associated to the ocean and tides, as many would often say they could spot queen susan swimming out amongst the mermaids and nymphs on a moonlight night.

QUEEN OF SPRING: she was eventually mythified into the personification of rebirth, growth, change, love and hope.

MOTHER OF NARNIA: many tales spoke of her softness, her motherly love for all. it was she many narnians would pray to for a blessing upon the coming of a new child. she was prayed to for comfort during hardships, but also for the fierce protection of a mother’s devotion.

QUEEN OF BEAUTY / JEWEL OF NARNIA: all pertaining to her legendary beauty; her gentle, sweet, and flowering nature.

MARKSMAN QUEEN: even if her gentle nature was more widely known and spoken of, there were whispers of susan’s prowess with a bow, her undeniably accurate and deadly aim. she loathes fighting and especially killing, but would do it when she absolutely must. there were also tales of her using her bow solely against those who sought to harm the innocent, that her arrows would always strike true against those with hearts of darkness.

BARBARIAN QUEEN / WHORE OF THE HIGH KING: when spoken of in more negative connotations. the second one was something deeply vile, and used as a sort of double edged sword : the idea that peter would sell her out to foreign dignitaries, but also as fuel for rumors of incest, that she never married because peter wanted to keep her all to himself.

HEARTSBANE: another somewhat negative nickname. one one hand this could have easily stood for the broken hearts of all the kings and lords she’d turned down over the years. on the other there were eventual darker myths that she would kill the men who displeased her in any way by cutting out their hearts and keeping them for herself.
